Legalia is currently looking for a Legal and Compliance Advisor for the insurance company North Europe Life Belgium based in Brussels.

North Europe Life Belgium (NELB) is part of the French group Crédit Mutuel Nord Europe (CMNE) created in 1957. NELB offers life insurance services in Belgium through the banking retail network (BeoBank) and through direct marketing.

 

Job description

You will report directly to the CEO and be in charge of the following:

- Laws, rules and insurance reglementation

  • Tracking and monitoring of and reporting on new and/or updates of local and European laws and regulations, sectors’ guidelines and market practices with regard to insurances and insurance related matters
  • Follow-up of insurance sector approach of new and/or adapted insurance reglementation by active participation to the Assuralia working groups
  • Drafting of concrete action plans for correct, complete and timely implementation of new and/or adapted insurance reglementation
  • Preparation of staff awareness sessions on new and/or adapted insurance reglementation

- Insurance documentation and Customer communications

  • Drafting and legal review of all specific communications and documentations for the distribution networks and customers such as general terms and conditions, policy terms, privacy clauses, medical questionnaires, leaflets, marketing materials, website, etc.
  • Drafting and review of specific customer communications in case of complaints or claim disputes in order to avoid reputation risks and litigations

- Distribution network

  • Prepare communications to the sales network with regard to new and/or updated insurance regulations
  • Set-up formal and documented controls for the various types of distribution partners
  • Formal and documented reporting on distribution compliance to internal and external policies

 - Processes and procedures

  • Drafting of new and review of existing operational processes and procedures in order to ensure compliance to new and/or updated reglementation and potential fraud cases
  • Follow-up and reporting on customer complaints
  • Follow-up and reporting on the status of litigations

 - Filings and registrations to the supervising regulators

  • Prepare filing and registration of all relevant documentation for the supervising authorities BNB and FSMA
  • Prepare communications to the regulator on ad hoc questions or reporting requirements

 

Profile 

Technical skills:

  • Master in Law: knowledge of local and European insurance laws and regulations, law on commercial practices, insurance intermediation laws, circulars of the regulators, guidelines of Assuralia, etc
  • Perfect bilingual (Dutch and French): speaking and writing
  • 5 years + of experience in an insurance company, specialized in branch 21 and 23
